Indescribable

Jody asked me to blog yet I feel as though the words would just be senseless jargon, and jibber-jabber. How can one describe a miracle? A miracle has to be seen and experienced, and those who have seen and experienced can share in the wonder. Those who haven’t can only imagine, and this is where the imagination falls miserably short and lacking. If you were to ask me to explain salvation what could I say? What can mortal mind say of immortality? I could echo the sentiments of all the great poets and hymnist before—Pastor Carl Boberg says it this way, “Then sings my soul my Savior God, to Thee; How great Thou art, how great Thou art!”—Or John Newton, “Amazing Grace how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.”—Bernard of Clairvaux said, “Jesus, the very thought of Thee, with sweetness fills my breast; But sweeter far Thy face to see, and in Thy presence rest.—“O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise” (Charles Wesley).—“To God be the glory, great things He hath done” (Fanny Crosby).—“When I survey the wondrous Cross” (Isaac Watts)—And while all these have wondrously tried to paint a picture of what is in the human soul, words will ultimately fall short. What would Moses say of his burning bush experience? Or the Hebrew nation as the waters of the Red Sea dried up before them? What about Gideon what would he say about his fleece incident or how 300 men defeated a far greater army in human eyes? What about Enoch who one day “was no more”? We have not even made it halfway through the scriptures and these miraculous moments are still coming to mind. How can the brain and the tongue work together to describe such wonders?
The only word that does come to mind is “GOD”. Simply yet profoundly put it is GOD. I believe miracles are those moments in life when God allows us to see a part of the whole, a small corner of a much bigger picture of who He is. For a mortal man to see God in all of His glory is instant death, but maybe He allows us vision of the tip of his garment, or a portion of His hand, or a lock of His hair to keep us chasing and pursuing Him. We feel God has allowed us to behold a miracle, we have seen in a little more clear light who God is. Maybe only a fragment of his garment, but He has magnified Himself to us. Words, I don’t have any---“Describe it”---I can’t for He is indescribable.
Caily Joelle Miles we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for letting the King of Kings use you to remove the scales from our eyes and magnify Himself to us. For from the time of your conception to your birth (4:32pm on Friday June the 29th) we have watched a miracle unfold, a miracle of indescribable greatness and wonder, the miracle of life! Father, open our eyes to behold the miracles of everyday life!!

Hi Darin,

(I work with Doris.) First, I have to say that this is incredibly well written. Amazing to read. I thought you might be able to relate to a little video my brother put together for Father's Day this year. He is a first time Dad himself and still working through the miracle of Fatherhood.
