Good Ole Tommy

There is only one horse on this property without a price tag and his name is Tommy. I have known Tommy for about three and a half years and he has been eight years old ever since I met him. When we moved out to the ranch, Tommy was living with two donkeys and was so excited to see other horses, that he didn't leave the fence for two days. We thought that we might have to move him or something because he wouldn't go off and graze for fear of losing his horse friends. He has many jobs around the ranch one of which is to be a babysitter to our foals when they are weaned or to carry on his back those that are less experienced in the riding skills. This summer he had the privilege of having his mane and tail braided with ribbons for a certain four year olds birthday and giving rides to many excited children who yelled giddy-up for him to plod around the yard.

Even with such important jobs, this black and white paint has one goal in life, to be a barn horse. Every single opportunity he has to be in some sort of building aka barn, he grabs it. He use to just roam freely around the barn where the other horses were kept in stalls at night and tied out during the day. Tommy would first make his rounds to say hello to all the horses and then spend the rest of his day in the barn, dreaming of the day he too would be a barn horse. This post came about because tonight when we got home from church, Tommy had gotten out of his pasture and was around the houses in search of a "barn". We pulled into the garage that had been left open and saw evidence that Tommy had tried it out as a barn, but hadn't stayed long. Once in our house, our dogs were raising quite a fuss, so I looked outside and saw Tommy rounding a corner to see if maybe our house could also be his. It cracked me up to look out our back door and see Tommy longingly looking in the window. So, with all of his antics, I thought that Tommy, or Tombolena as he is lovingly called, deserved a post, the ranch gelding that longs to be a barn horse.

And for good measures, I will post a picture of the little one. Hopefully tomorrow I will post more on her, but this picture is mainly for my sister, Heather, because Caily is sporting clothes from her.

I love the outfit Jods :) The shoes look great on her ... I definitely love them! And your Tommy story got a good laugh out of me ... even with my hatred of horses, I have a soft spot for that one.
